Jang blame Northern leaders’ negligence for Boko Haram

Plateau State governor, Jonah David Jang has blamed negligence on the side of leaders of the northern region as the major cause for the escalation of activities of Boko Haram and insurgencies. He said Boko Haram started their exploit from Plateau state far back and when the state complained of infiltration by foreigners, no one took it serious. Speaking when Mr. Martins Brian, Charge D' Affairs America Embassy in Nigeria visited him in Jos, he said, "If leaders of the north and Nigerians had listened to the plight and complain of the state on the infiltration of foreigners in Plateau crises and address it squarely, the insurgence in the north and other parts of the country would have been nip in the bud. He said, " Plateau state government had cried out on many occasions of the involvement of foreign mercenaries in the crises in the state, but our plight and the complain were ignored and perceived as sentiment not on till other states in the north started having similar experience. "Plateau State like any other parts of the country especially in the north has its own challenges, our challenges started many years ago when the military was in power. When I came in I always believe that as retired general I should be able to resolve the problems, even though we have been misunderstood on this issue. May be if we have been listened to from the beginning the insurgence in the north would have been arrested. "When we started reporting of foreigners getting involve in the crises here, we are not believed. It is about foreigners involving in the internal matter affecting the country. I thank God I have been vindicated what we are trying to stop here escalated and developed in to Boko Haram which some part of the north are suffering today." According to him, during the crisis in the state, some people reported Plateau to the International Criminal Court alleging genocide adding that investigation was carried out and it was discovered that nothing if such happened in the state adding that it was a surprised to him that a sitting governor would want to see bloodshed. Governor Jang who said terrorism had become a global phenomenon pleaded for the understand of the United State of America and as well help Nigeria towards arresting the menace crippling into the country. The governor said peace had return to Plateau state and commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his efforts towards laying peace and all other security agencies adding that with their complimentary roles things have began to take shape again in the state. Mr. Brain said United States of America is interested in peace in Nigeria and ready and willing to cooperate with the country in this regard adding that several meetings were had with civil society groups and government towards a achieving the peace initiative. He said United States understands that Nigeria was having security challenges and that was why it is partnering with the country to find laying lasting solution.
